1884: Washington Pyramid To commemorate its first President George Washington USA completed a much-dragged construction of an impressive monument on December 6. It has a Greek temple-like design. Its designer was architect Robert Mills. The construction was halted in the midway due to lack of funds. However, US President Ulysses S. Grant authorized its construction in 1876. 555 feet is its height. Washington city passed a law at that time limiting the height of constructions so that the monument remains the tallest building. 1865: 13th Amendment of US constitution A colorful victory. The US ended the ill-practice of slavery by ratifying the 13th Amendment to its Constitution. Prior to that Abraham Lincoln had issued Emancipation Proclamation declaring all slaves who are in rebellion to be free.
